CLEVELAND, Ohio -- We’re so deep into awards season, conventional wisdom dictates that Oscar nomination day is nothing but a formality. By now we’ve seen the same films and same performances singled out by the HFPA, SAG, DGA, PGA, CCA, etc., as the best of the best over the past year.

Lessening the drama has been a field of potential nominees that feels narrower than usual. “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Banshees of Insherin,” and “The Fabelmans” -- those films and everyone in them were really good. We get it already!
